White Water Rafting in Kitulgala

Kitulgala, located in the Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka, is renowned for its white water rafting opportunities on the Kelani River. The river offers grade 2 and 3 rapids, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced rafters. Makandawa Rainforest Trail

The Makandawa Forest Reserve, situated near Kitulgala, is a biodiverse rainforest ideal for hiking and birdwatching. Trails lead adventurers through dense foliage, past crystal-clear rock pools and waterfalls. The reserve is home to several rare species of fish, birds, butterflies, and reptiles, offering a rich experience for nature enthusiasts.

Bridge on the River Kwai Filming Site

The 1957 film “The Bridge on the River Kwai” was shot in Kitulgala. While the original bridge constructed for the movie no longer exists, visitors can explore the filming location along the Kelani River. Local guides, including individuals involved in the film’s production, offer insights into the site’s cinematic history. ​

Belilena Cave

Belilena Cave, located approximately 8 kilometres from Kitulgala, is an archaeological site where evidence of prehistoric human presence dating back over 30,000 years has been discovered. Excavations have unearthed skeletal remains of the ‘Balangoda Man’ and various artefacts, shedding light on Sri Lanka’s ancient inhabitants. The cave is accessible via a trek through the forest, offering both historical insight and natural beauty.
